Deceased driver recovered from Gwinnett County pond, identified

PEACHTREE CORNERS - The woman who drove her car into a pond on Peachtree Corners Circle Wednesday morning in a fatal one vehicle wreck has been identified.<br /> <br /> The Gwinnett County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit said Laura Jones Tavel, 53, of Duluth, was the driver of the 2000 Honda CR-V traveling east on Peachtree Corners Circle that plunged into the retention pond.<br /> <br /> The preliminary investigation shows that Jones was negotiating a curve when, for unknown reasons, she veered to the right and into the pond.<br /> <br /> She was unable to exit the vehicle and died at the scene after the vehicle sank into approximately 15-20 feet of water.<br /> <br /> Her body was recovered by fire department personnel from the Gwinnett County Fire Department and the Hall County Fire Department and was released to the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner.<br /> <br /> Authoritiess continue to investigate the accident and are trying to determine why or what caused Ms. Jones to leave the roadway. <br />
