Gainesville's Mallard shines at national Junior Olympics

HUMBLE, Texas -- Gainesville's Hunter Mallard a rising sophomore at Gainesville High, recently showed his future is bright in the pole vault.<br /> <br /> Mallard cleared a personal best 12-feet-7.5 at the USATF Junior Olympics in Humble, Texas, on Saturday to finish 16th in the the nation amongst 15-16-year-olds.<br /> <br /> Mallard competed against a field of 34 vaulters and was one of only two vaulters from the state of Georgia. <br /> <br /> Armand Duplantis, of New Heights Gym Track Club (New Iberia, La.), won the event in 15-16 class with a vault of 15-1.
