GAINESVILLE - Stephanie Woodard, Solicitor-General for Hall County, was named "Solicitor-General of the Year for 2014" this week at the Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia (PAC) Summer Conference at Jekyll Island.

Each year during the conference, the Georgia Association of Solicitors-General (GASG) presents this award to recognize outstanding leadership and dedication in the field of prosecution.

"I am honored and humbled to receive this award," said Woodard. "Georgia's prosecutors are the best of the best, and to have earned their esteem is one of my proudest achievements."

Woodard became the Solicitor-General of Hall County in January 2009.

"Stephanie is an innovative, forward thinking leader, who has set new and higher standards for being a prosecutor and a public servant," said GASG President, Athens-Clarke County Solicitor-General C. R. Chisholm, who presented the award. "Her tireless efforts at the Capitol have helped secure multiple pieces of legislation that not only benefit the people of Hall County, but the people across our entire state."

He said those efforts during the 2014 legislative session are precisely what made Woodard stand out as a candidate for the award.

"At the Capitol, she has it," said Chisholm. "Not only intelligence and sharp instincts, but trustworthiness, a keen understanding of people, and the highest of ethical standards."

On behalf of the GASG, Woodard was able to shepherd legislation into law this year including HB 711, which alleviates spousal privilege when the spouse is the victim of domestic violence; HB 911, the new strangulation law; and SB 187, which concentrates on getting forensic interviews compensated for child victims and witnesses of crime.
