Voter turnout in Hall more than predicted

GAINESVILLE - Voter turnout in Hall County for Tuesday's primary runoffs beat the Elections Director's prediction by about four percentage points.<br /> <br /> Charlotte Sosebee had predicted a turnout of about 12 percent. But after the votes had been tallied Tuesday night, results showed that turnout was 16.7 percent or 13,179 out of 78,929 registered voters. <br /> <br /> In the May 20 primary elections, county officials reported that 15,201 votes were cast out of 78,929 registered voters. That's a turnout of slightly less than 20 percent.<br /> <br /> Among statewide runoffs Tuesday, David Perdue, who defeated Jack Kingston for the Republican U.S. Senate nomination, also carried Hall County - 59.32 percent to 40.68 percent. <br /> <br /> In the race for state Schools Superintendent, the Republican outcome was still too close to call at last report, but Richard Woods easily carried Hall County - 58.79 percent to 41.21 percent for Mike Buck. On the Democratic ballot, Valarie Wilson, who carried the state, carried Hall County - 62.8 percent to Alisha Thomas Morgan's 37.20 percent.<br /> <br />
