Banks County girls claim Dizzy Dean series title

The BC Pride all-star softball team from Banks County won the Dizzy Dean 12-and-under 2014 World Series in Southaven, Miss., this past weekend, taking out teams from all over the southeast.<br /> <br /> It was Banks County's first ever world series victory, as the Pride won four straight games without yielding a run.<br /> <br /> Banks County rolled over the Starkville (Miss.) Storm 14-0, the Hernando (Miss.) Tigers 17-0 and Jasper (Ala.) 6-0 before blanking Jasper again 6-0 in the championship game. <br /> <br /> Tybee Denton sparked the Pride with an MVP performance, tossing one perfect game, two no-hitters and a one-hit shutout in championship game. Denton struck out 41 batters over the weekend, while also batting .500 with 13 RBI to earn All-Tournament team honors. <br /> <br /> Jill Martinet led Banks County with a .600 batting average. Kya Santiago, Sarah Barrett, and Denton each batted .500, while Hannah Angel was next, batting .429. <br /> <br /> Their performances helped Banks County to fulfill its goal of claiming the title after finishing as 2013 Dizzy Dean runners-up.<br /> <br /> Banks County was also presented with the sportsmanship award by the Atlanta Braves.
