NGMC raises over $1 million for new heart failure treatment unit

GAINESVILLE - Over $1 million has been donated to an upcoming project that will focus on inpatient heart failure treatment, Northeast Georgia Medical Center Foundation board members announced today.<br /> <br /> The Woody Stewart Heart Failure Treatment Unit will be the only dedicated inpatient heart failure unit in the state. The unit will provide additional beds for cardiac patients and a teaching center to educate patients living with heart failure.<br /> <br /> The unit is named in memory of longtime board member Woody Stewart. "Cardiac care always held such a special place for Woody," said Jim Moore, chairman of the Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees. "The outpouring of support from those who knew him echoes that same sentiment and is truly a testament to his enduring leadership."<br /> <br /> The unit will be made possible through gifts from Stewart's family, close friends and colleagues. Signature gifts for the unit were made by Jim Walters, The Medical Center Auxiliary, and an anonymous third donor. Lorry and Sherrie Schrage and Muriel Nathan also donated towards the teaching center.<br /> <br /> The unit is expected to open in 2015.<br /> <br /> Stewart, who died in 2012, was Chairman of The Medical Center Foundation (MCF) Board of Trustees and member of the Board of Trustees for Northeast Georgia Health System (NGHS),<br /> <br />
