ELBERTON - A 2-year-old Elberton boy is improving after his grandmother's vehicle ran over him Friday night.

Sgt. 1st Class W.P. Waller of Georgia State Patrol Post 17 in Washington said Monday afternoon the investigation is still in progress.

Waller said Officer Clete Williams of Elberton Police Department turned over the investigation to him.

The incident, reported at 11:03 p.m., involved a 2000 Cadillac Escalade driven by 48-year-old Jackie Lee Burton of Elberton.

"When they parked at their residence at 348 Mill St., they pulled behind the house," Waller said. "It's a gravel driveway. The grandmother believes that she had put the car in park, but she had left it in neutral or reverse and got out and was getting the two grandchildren out, and it backed over the 2-year-old."

The child was flown to Greenville Memorial Hospital in Greenville, S.C.

Asked the condition of the victim Monday, Waller said, "The child is doing much better now."

Charges are pending, Waller said.
