North Hall taps Wells to take over Trojans' athletic department

GAINESVILLE -- North Hall High School has found its next athletic director.<br /> <br /> School Principal Jamey Moore announced Monday that his choice for the position -- as well as that of an assistant principal -- was current Lanier High athletic director and football coach Billy Wells.<br /> <br /> Wells will take over from Richard Crumley, who recently resigned his position to become principal at Dawson County High School.<br /> <br /> "I am pleased to recommend Mr. Billy Wells to be hired as an assistant principal and athletic director at North Hall High School," Moore said. "As a new principal, I am choosing to bring someone that has leadership experience and success leading a high school athletic program to North Hall. Coach Wells knows the job and the community. I consider it a blessing that coach Wells lives in North Hall and has children in our feeder schools. The character, work ethic, and vision that he will bring to North Hall High School will make him a valuable member of our team as we all work to create opportunities for our students and athletes to succeed."<br /> <br /> Wells has been the Longhorns' athletic director and head football coach in Gwinnett County for four years -- since the school opened in Sugar Hill. During two years of official GHSA competition in Region 8-AAAA, Lanier compiled a 14-8 record that included a first round win in the 2013 Class AAAA playoffs. Prior to Lanier, Wells coached at Collins Hill High for 12 years, including two years as head football coach.<br /> <br /> "I wasn't really looking to make a change when the opportunity at North Hall came to my attention," Wells said. "After meeting with North Hall Principal Jamey Moore, personnel director Dr. Brad Brown, and assistant superintendent for teaching and learning Dr. Eloise Barron, I had an entirely different view of what my future might be. They inspired me to want to be a better educator and school leader. In addition, I have already embraced the North Hall community in that it has been my family's home for the past several years."<br /> <br /> Wells and his wife Teri, who is employed by NEGA Medical Center, have two children -- Taylor, age 12, who attends North Hall Middle, and Katie, age 5, who will attend Mt. Vernon Elementary.<br /> <br /> Mr. Wells' position is pending Hall County Board of Education approval, which next meets on July 28.
