GAINESVILLE - Gainesville and Hall County firefighters responded to a construction debris fire on Old County Dump Road in Gainesville Sunday afternoon.

Gainesville fire spokesman Keith Smith said about 4:30 that crews had been on the scene for about two hours. He said fire crews turned over the scene to the owner of the property just before 10 p.m.

Because of the inaccessibility of the fire, "we have called the Georgia State Patrol and requested their helicopter respond," Smith added. He said the helicopter was to use its "bucket" system to dump water onto the fire and was to also offer an aerial assessment of the blaze.

Smith reported getting some calls about the fire and AccessNorthGeorgia did as well.

Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle noted that this is not the first time a fire has occurred at that location. It "happens from time to time," he said.
