Parole board schedules clemency hearing for Dawson Co. death row inmate

ATLANTA - The state Board of Pardons and Paroles has scheduled a clemency hearing Wednesday for Tommy Lee Waldrip, who is facing execution Thursday for a Dawson County murder.<br /> <br /> <br /> Waldrip was convicted of the murder of Keith Evans which occurred on April 13, 1991. Evans, who was from Forsyth County, was scheduled to testify against Waldrip's son in an armed robbery trial. On October 26, 1994, a jury found Waldrip guilty of malice murder and he was sentenced to death. <br /> <br /> <br /> He is scheduled to die by lethal injection Thursday at 7:00 p.m., at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson. Plans for the execution were announced last month. (See separate story. Link below.)<br /> <br /> The Georgia Supreme Court upheld the conviction and affirmed the jury's verdict. Waldrip has concluded his state and federal habeas corpus proceedings. The U.S. Supreme Court denied his appeal on May 27.<br /> <br /> <br /> LINK BOX<br />
