GAINESVILE - Georgia DOT says crews will begin to install the concrete beams for the new bridge on Clarks Bridge Road north of Gainesville Monday.

The plan is to set five beams daily Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, if weather cooperates.

"Each bridge beam is custom made like a puzzle piece that only fits in one place. Each beam is 136 feet long and six feet two inches tall. These are the first beams to be set as part of the new bridge at the Olympic Center on Lake Lanier," said Harold Mull, GDOT District Engineer.

Meanwhile, work continues on the tunnel under Clarks Bridge Road near the bridge construction site and GDOT says it is on schedule for the planned reopening on July 26 of the section of the road closed because of the tunnel work.
