Co-founder of Aflac insurance company dies at 88

COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- Paul Amos, co-founder of Aflac Inc., has died.<br /> <br /> According to a company statement, Amos was 88 years old and died Wednesday night after a lengthy illness.<br /> <br /> Amos and his two brothers founded the company, originally known as American Family Life Insurance Company, in 1955 in Columbus, Georgia. He served as chairman emeritus of the Fortune 500 company after retiring in 2001.<br /> <br /> He was raised in Enterprise, Alabama and Milton, Florida.<br /> <br /> Aflac chairman and CEO Dan Amos says his father will be remembered as a straight-shooter and a gentleman.
