BANKS CROSSING - A South Carolina man who led officers on a chase through three counties was injured after the vehicle he was driving crashed in Banks County early Wednesday.

Sgt. Carissa McFaddin of Banks County Sheriff's Office said the vehicle pursuit that originated in Oconee County, S.C., ended on I-85 southbound at mile marker 150 in Banks County around 1:55 a.m. That location is about one mile north of Exit 149, which is the Banks Crossing/Commerce exit to Highway 441.

McFaddin said the driver is identified as 24-year-old Kenneth Jones of South Carolina.

When Oconee County officers tried to stop Jones for a traffic violation, he fled.

"During the high-speed pursuit, authorities were advised that Jones had outstanding warrants out of Pickens County, S.C.," McFaddin said.

Several Franklin County deputies joined the pursuit in their county.

"Once the pursuit reached Banks County on I-85, Banks County deputies took over - at which time Jones attempted to aggressively ram Banks County patrol units," McFaddin said. "A pursuit intervention technique (PIT) was then completed by Banks County, where the pursuit was then ended."

Jones, who reportedly was thrown from the vehicle, was airlifted from the scene on I-85 to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

McFaddin said Jones now also faces charges in Oconee County, S.C., Franklin County and Banks County.
