GAINESVILLE - Advance voting begins in Hall County Monday for the July 22 primary election runoffs.

Director of Elections Charlotte Sosebee said voting will continue through July 18 at the elections office in the Hall County Government Center on Browns Bridge Road from 8:00-5:00 each day, Monday-Friday.

Sosebee adds that sample ballots are available by mail, in the elections office and on the county website. Sample ballots and voter information are also available on the Georgia Secretary of State's website.

In order to be eligible to vote in the runoffs, you must have been a registered voter as of April 21, 2014; if you voted Democratic in the May 20 primary, you can only vote in the Democratic runoff; if you voted in the Republican primary, you can only vote in the Republican runoff; if you voted a non-partisan ballot on May 20, you can vote either Democratic or Republican July 22; and, if you did not vote May 20, you can vote in either the Democratic or Republican runoff.

Absentee ballots were available beginning June 7.

Sosebee says about 500 absentee ballots have been requested so far and that as of last Tuesday, 259 had been cast. Of those that had been requested, three were from people overseas. Overseas ballots were at the crux of a ruling by a federal judge that the runoff for federal elections in Georgia be held July 22 in order to allow plenty of time for them to be mailed and returned. Prior to this year, runoffs were typically held three-to-four weeks after an election. After the judge set the July 22 date for federal election runoffs, the state Legislature opted to schedule local and state runoffs the same day.
