Man wounded in officer-involved shooting expected to survive

CUMMING - Forsyth County authorities Thursday evening said the man shot by a deputy during the afternoon is expected to survive.<br /> <br /> Forsyth County Sheriff's Deputy Robin Regan said the incident happened shortly before 4:00 p.m. at an undeveloped subdivision in the area of Hopewell and Hubbard Town Roads.<br /> <br /> According to Regan, one of the department's deputies was patrolling the area and had pulled into the subdivision. Regan said the deputy noticed a dark-colored pickup truck.<br /> <br /> Passing the truck, Regan said the deputy noticed a man inside holding a rifle. The deputy got out of his patrol car and started walking to the truck.<br /> <br /> "When he approached the pickup truck, the male got out of the truck and began to point the rifle at our deputy and also making action that he was going to fire the rifle," Regan said.<br /> <br /> "The deputy fired at the suspect a few times and struck him," Regan added.<br /> <br /> Authorities said the wounded man was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville and was expected to survive.<br /> <br /> The deputy has been placed on administrative leave while the Georgia Bureau of Investigation investigates the incident.<br /> <br /> The names of the wounded man and the deputy have not been released.
