JOHNS CREEK, Ga. (AP) A public hearing and city council vote are set in an Atlanta suburb, where officials are considering a proposed 400-foot tower for emergency communications.

The Johns Creek City Council is holding the public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday. Council members are scheduled to vote after the hearing.

The tower is being proposed for a site near Johns Creek High School and the St. Ives Country Club.

Residents who object to the tower say it would be the tallest structure in the city just northeast of Atlanta and include a strobe light at the top to warn aircraft in the area.

Johns Creek Mayor Mike Bodker has said the tower is needed to enhance public safety communications. He says the current system isn't working adequately and needs improvement.
