White County will vote on land use, but not Sunday sales

CLEVELAND - White County Commissioners on Monday approved a resolution to place a land use resolution question on the November ballot. <br /> <br /> The commission has held public hearings on the issue and received numerous comments from the public. The question on the ballot will ask the voters if they want the commission to develop a land use resolution based on the information received from the public. <br /> <br /> Commissioners not only agreed to place the question on the ballot, but also agreed not to work on a final land plan until and if voters give their approval. <br /> <br /> The commissioners were in unanimous agreement on the land use issue, but they were not in agreement in asking the voters if they want Sunday alcohol sales. <br /> <br /> Commissioner Lyn Holcomb said he had some people request that the commission put the issue on the ballot, but following discussion the commission voted 4-1 against placing the issue on the ballot. Holcomb was the only commissioner voting in favor.<br /> <br /> Commissioner Edwin Nix said he would be in favor of putting the question out for the voters to decide - if county businesses are placed at a disadvantage should the City of Cleveland approve Sunday sales. <br /> <br /> "We're playing around with stuff that can get commissioners thrown out of office," Nix said of the Sunday sales and land use issues.
