Veteran Hall Co. jailer fired after altercation with inmate

GAINESVILLE - A 25-year veteran of the Hall County Sheriff's Office has lost his job following an altercation at the Hall County Jail a week ago.<br /> <br /> In a statement released by the Hall County Sheriff's Office, authorities said Sgt. Kenny Lane punched an inmate in the abdomen after the inmate assaulted and injured two jailors on Saturday, June 14. Lane reportedly was not directly involved in the initial skirmish, and the inmate had been handcuffed and brought under control when Lane struck him, according to the statement.<br /> <br /> The shift Lieutenant told his supervisors he saw the inmate being struck and intervened. <br /> <br /> The HCSO said Lane was immediately placed on administrative leave with pay pending an investigation, but on Tuesday, Lane was fired from his job. <br /> <br /> The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the incident.<br />
