Kick off planned for Jackson County Heritage GeoTrail

JEFFERSON - The Jackson County Tourism Council will host a kick-off breakfast and "meet and greet" at 9:00 Saturday, June 28, in the parking lot behind the Crawford Long Museum in Jefferson. <br /> <br /> The one-hour event will set the stage for the official opening of the new Jackson County Heritage GeoTrail at 10:00. During the kick-off event participating geo-caching enthusiasts will be able to sign in and then receive their official "passport" and trail coordinates.<br /> <br /> Geocaching combines elements of a traditional treasure hunt with Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and the Internet to locate "treasures" that are hidden all over the world.<br /> <br /> As part of the official kick-off, the first 100 cachers who complete their passport will be awarded a commemorative coin sponsored by the Crawford W. Long Museum.<br /> <br /> Anyone interested in trying geocaching for the first time, should visit www.geocaching.com and set up a free account. The website includes a variety of information including a "Geocaching 101" video. <br /> <br /> The kick-off, which begins at 9:00 a.m. on June 28, will include breakfast, coffee and juice. It is open to the public and there is no charge to attend.
