Gainesville RYDC officer recognized for service 'above and beyond'

GAINESVILLE - Lt. Kenneth Ward of the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC) has been presented with the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice's (DJJ) "Above & Beyond" Award for dedication to the agency and its juvenile justice reform mission. <br /> <br /> "This special award was designed to bring distinctive recognition to DJJ Staff who have gone the "extra mile" to help make DJJ a better workplace for everyone," said djj Commissioner Avery D. Niles. <br /> <br /> Ward was nominated by Gainesville RYDC Director Chuck Hewett. Hewett's nomination describes Lt. Ward as "making great strides in every aspect as Administrative Lieutenant" and "consistently improving the RYDC." <br /> <br /> "Lt. Ward strives to set the standard and displays leadership qualities that make a lasting impression on new officers," the nomination said. "He is the epitome of the kind of officer that DJJ needs."<br /> <br /> Niles said qualifying for this level of staff recognition is part of achieving "Best Practices" at the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.
