CLEVELAND - The White County Board of Commissioners on Monday held a public hearing on the draft 2015 proposed budget for the county.

The budget calls for $15.9 million in the general fund.

Commission Chairman Travis Turner said the proposed plan is down $214,000 from the current budget.

During the public hearing, commissioners heard a request for $3,000 in additional funding to assist the White County Public Library in purchasing needed books and materials.

Nancy Duggan, with the group Friends of the White County Library, told the commissioners that the state is not providing funding for books anymore yet that is something that is needed. She said one-third of the county's population has a library card.

Following a motion by Commissioner Craig Bryant, commissioners approved adding the money to the new budget.

Commissioners will meet for another budget hearing, as well as possible approval, next Monday night.
