Gainesville City Council gives the okay to FY 2015 budget

GAINESVILLE - With no discussion and no public comment, Gainesville City Council gave final approval Tuesday evening to the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.<br /> <br /> The $30.3 million financial plan includes no tax increase for property owners. <br /> <br /> The ad valorem tax rate stands at $3.06 on each $1,000 of taxable property in the city. In addition, the tax rate for the Gainesville City School Board remains fixed at $7.59 per $1,000 of taxable property.<br /> <br /> Mayor Danny Dunagan said he was pleased with the budget process this year.<br /> <br /> "With no tax increase to the citizens, we're going to be able to do about a million and a half dollars worth of roadwork throughout the city, some repaving and some intersection improvements."<br /> <br /> In additional, Dunagan said the city will be able to perform some much needed capital improvements under the new budget. Plus, some city employees will receive merit raises.<br /> <br /> The vote to approve the FY 2015 budget was unanimous.
