Gainesville School Board approves $61.2 million budget

GAINESVILLE, GA - The Gainesville City School Board officially approved a $61.2 million budget for the 2014-15 school year at its meeting Monday night.<br /> <br /> Janet Allison, Chief Financial Officer for the school system, said they are comfortable with the budget.<br /> <br /> "We're glad to get it passed by June 30," said Allison.<br /> <br /> The budget restores the full school calendar and adds some 20 instructional positions to the payroll.<br /> <br /> "It's looking like a better year. When we stop tapping the [general] fund balance, it'll be a good year," said Allison.<br /> <br /> ADDITIONAL NOTES:<br /> <br /> -William Campbell, the principal at Fair Street School, was honored as Distinguished Principal of the Year.<br /> <br /> -The board voted to declare six vehicles as surplus--three by the end of June and three by the end 2014--and will buy six new vehicles. The money for that is included in the budget.
