LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- Behind stellar pitching from starter Alex Wood and the bullpen, the Gwinnett Braves beat the Louisville Bats by a 5-1 score on Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

Wood, making his first start since being optioned to Gwinnett by Atlanta on June 10, worked 3.2 scoreless innings with two hits, two walks and five strikeouts. He was on a pitch count limit and did not go far enough to qualify for the win.

The G-Braves' offense built Wood an early lead. In the top of the second inning, facing former Braves' pitcher Jair Jurrjens, Mark Hamilton led off with an infield single. Joey Terdoslavich followed with a single to left, and Brandon Boggs reached on an error by Louisville shortstop Kris Negron to load the bases with no one out. After one out, Ozzie Martinez drove a double down the left field line, clearing the bases to give Gwinnett a 3-0 lead. Wood bunted Martinez to third and Jose Constanza singled to right, plating Martinez for a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the second, Hamilton drew a one out walk, Terdoslavich singled to right and Boggs singled to right to again load the bases against Jurrjens. Joe Leonard's groundout to second scored Hamilton from third to raise the lead to 5-0.

The only Louisville (34-35) run came in the bottom of the sixth when Thomas Neal (2) hit a two-out solo home run to left off Kameron Loe.

The G-Braves' bullpen would give up only one more hit the rest of the way.

Loe (W, 1-1) picked up the win in relief of Wood by going 3.1 innings with three hits, one earned run and four strikeouts. Left-hander Atahualpa Severino worked a scoreless eighth inning with one walk and one strikeout. Juan Jamie pitched a scoreless ninth with one walk and two strikeouts.

Jurrjens (L, 1-2) went 6.0 innings with nine hits, five runs (three earned), two walks and three strikeouts. Tim Crabbe worked 2.0 innings with three walks. Curtis Partch went 1.0 inning with one strikeout.

At the plate, the G-Braves (34-33) were led by Martinez (2-for-3, double, run, 3 RBI), Constanza (2-for-5, RBI) and Terdoslavich (2-for-4, run). Additionally, Christian Bethancourt went 1-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to 11 games.

For the Bats, Neal was 1-for-4 with a homer and one RBI.

The Gwinnett Braves and Louisville Bats conclude the four-game series on Saturday at Louisville Slugger Field, first pitch scheduled for 6:05 PM. Right-hander Cody Martin (4-5, 3.58) is scheduled to start for the G-Braves, while right-hander Chien-Ming Wang (6-5, 3.89) counters for the Bats.
