Alto woman faces 94 prescription drug charges in Cleveland

CLEVELAND - A 39-year-old Alto woman, who once lived in Cleveland, has been charged with at least 94 counts related to fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs. <br /> <br /> A Cleveland Police Department incident report shows that on May 27, Officer Evie Barrera was dispatched to Fred's Pharmacy to investigate an incident where someone was picking up prescriptions obtained under fraudulent pretenses. <br /> <br /> Following the investigation and interview on June 4, 39-year-old Christy Vie Walker was arrested and charged. <br /> <br /> "We believe she was calling the pharmacy herself pretending to be the personnel from a local doctor's office, whether it would be the physician or nurse, calling to have the prescription refilled or calling in an original prescription for her or her deceased sister-in-law," Barrera said.<br /> <br /> Walker, who seems to have been working alone, has been doing this for sometime according to Barrera. <br /> <br /> "After talking with her, we found out that one of the individuals that she was trying to use the identity of was actually her deceased sister-in-law and looking through that and the other prescription history at that particular pharmacy we found out that it went back as far as September of 2013." <br /> <br /> Cleveland Police Chief John Foster said initially they were working on more than 100 counts but ended up officially charging her with 33 counts of identity fraud, 34 counts of use of communications facilities to violate provisions, 17 counts of fraudulently obtaining controlled substance, two counts of <br /> distribution of a dangerous drug, seven counts of attempting to obtain regulated drugs by fraud and one count of false statements and writing. <br /> <br /> She was booked into the White County Detention Center.
