HSNEGA names acting director, celebrates milestone neuter surgery

GAINESVILLE - The Humane Society of Northeast Georgia board appointed a familiar face as Acting Director over the weekend, and performed the shelter's 50,000th neuter surgery.<br /> <br /> The board appointed Julie Edwards as acting director after they chose not to renew the previous Executive Director's contract.<br /> <br /> "I'm very honored that the board trusted me with that role in the interim," said Edwards. "I've been here four and a half years and it's definitely a passion of mine to see this humane society grow and thrive ."<br /> <br /> Edwards and a pet from the shelter are featured weekly on WDUN Pet of the Week.<br /> <br /> The shelter's 50,000th neuter surgery was conducted Monday. <br /> <br /> The lucky dog is a pit bull mix named Crixus. He and his owners are featured in the photograph.<br /> <br /> "It's an integral part of our mission to help reduce pet over-population and also ensure the health and well-being of the pets in our area," Edwards said.<br /> <br /> Edwards also said pet over-population was an issue in our area.<br />
