Demorest teen hurt in single-vehicle wreck

DEMOREST - A Demorest teen suffered minor injuries Monday afternoon when the truck he was driving left the road and struck several objects.<br /> <br /> Trooper 1st Class Jesse Lewis said 16-year-old Matthew McKay II was driving a 2000 Ford Super Duty truck that was traveling east toward Cornelia on Georgia Highway 105 (Cannon Bridge Road) when the wreck happened around 2:20 p.m.<br /> <br /> "He stated he was looking at his phone - looking up directions on his phone," Lewis said. <br /> <br /> The truck traveled off the south shoulder of the road, striking a culvert, a 9-1-1 sign, and finally some trees, Lewis said.<br /> <br /> The truck, owned by the driver's father, was used to pick up garbage cans for Waste Away, Lewis said.<br /> <br /> The teen was not transported from the scene for medical treatment, Lewis said.<br />
