GHMPO takes citizens' input on 2040 transportation plan

GAINESVILLE, GA - About 40 citizens turned out for the Gainesville-Hall County Metropolitan Planning Organization meeting Thursday night at the Hall County Government Center.

People got a chance to participate in small groups with project leaders to give their input on the 2040 Metroplitan Transportation Plan, an ongoing plan that won't be finalized until March of next year.

Annette Forster lives on the north end of Hall county, and she says an east-west connector would be ideal, especially if it stretched across I-985 to I-85.

She says this could be done easily.

"It makes more sense [to build a connector] on already-existing roads rather than smashing through neighborhoods," Forster said.

Some of the other ideas mentioned include multi-use paths like the ones already in place in Braselton.

Don't worry if you missed the meeting, though; you can still give your input.

The GHMPO website includes a link to a survey for citizens to give their opinions.

This data will be collected along with other sources such as interviews and presented at a meeting on August 8 (location TBD).

Richard Fangmann, Director of Transportation with Pond and Co., says it's important for people to give them this data. Otherwise, he says, they can't provide the best product.

"When we come back in August, we're going to want to get opinions from folks on whether we've heard the right things and whether we've seen the right types of deficiencies out there," said Fangmann. "Then we can find out where we're going with solutions."

To find the survey, visit the GHMPO website at www.ghmpo.org and click on the "2040 update" on the left-hand side of the screen. The survey will then be on the top right.
