Rollover accident turns into manhunt, suspect in custody

GAINESVILLE - A routine traffic stop escalated into a rollover accident and later a man hunt in north Hall County Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.<br /> <br /> A Georgia State Patrol trooper attempted to pull over the suspect, 19-year-old William Matthew Hulsey, on Hubert Stephens Road at the entrance to the Overlook at North Hall subdivision.<br /> <br /> "A GSP trooper was attempting to make a traffic stop on a maroon Chevy S-10. The driver failed to yield and a pursuit ensued," Gordy Wright of the Georgia State Patrol said.<br /> <br /> Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Nicole Bailes said it was a minor traffic violation that prompted the initial stop attempt. Bailes said the county was called to assist the State Patrol at about 4:30 p.m. Thursday.<br /> <br /> "During that (car chase), the state patrol attempted to do a pit maneuver on this vehicle, and in return, both vehicles ended up overturned," Bailes said.<br /> <br /> Bailes said the trooper did not suffer any life threatening injuries, but the suspect fled the scene of the rollover on foot. She said K-9 units responded for the manhunt, along with Georgia Department of Natural Resources personnel.<br /> <br /> According to Hall County Sheriff's Deputy Chad Mann, Hulsey was later arrested and received medical treatment.<br /> <br /> Wright said the trooper was sent to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.<br /> <br /> Mann said a booking photo and any charges against Hulsey would be available Friday morning.<br /> <br /> <i> AccessNorthGA.com's Rob Moore contributed to this story.<i>
