Piedmont summer theatre to present 'Taming of the Shrew' and '9 to 5: The Musical'

DEMOREST - The North Georgia Theatre at Piedmont College summer stock season opens at the award-winning Arrendale Amphitheater in Demorest with a production of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew," followed by the Dolly Parton hit, "9 to 5: The Musical."<br /> <br /> Directed by Bill Gabelhausen, "Taming" is set as a troupe of actors from an undetermined period take over the amphitheatre stage to bring the classic story to life. "I was lucky enough to be cast in a national tour of "The Taming of the Shrew" shortly after graduate school," Gabelhausen said. "I cannot wait to revisit this witty and hilarious world that pits two of Shakespeare's strongest comic roles, Kate and Petruchio, against each other."<br /> <br /> "The Taming of the Shrew runs June 12-14 at 8 p.m. and June 15 at 2 p.m. The Arrendale Amphitheater is located at 359 College Drive in Demorest.<br /> <br /> This season, the theatre has partnered with local restaurant Sweet Breads for the amphitheatre production, and patrons will be able to order al fresco dinners in advance from Sweet Breads of Clarkesville. Menu options include Tuna Nicoise Salad, Tarragon Chicken Salad, and Chilled Pasta Salad Primavera.<br /> <br /> Also this summer at the Swanson Center mainstage, NGT will present "9 to 5: The Musical," with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton. "9 to 5" is directed by Kathy Blandin and plays June 26-28 at 8 p.m. and June 29 at 2 p.m. Based on the 21st Century Fox movie, "9 to 5" follows three working women living out their fantasies of getting even with the company's autocratic, sexist, egotistical, lying, boss. "At the heart of this hilarious musical, is the story of how women struggled for equality in the workplace," says Blandin. "Every woman working today stands on the shoulders of women just like Violet, Judy, and Doralee."<br /> <br /> Tickets are $10 for each production, or patrons can purchase a $16 season ticket good for both productions.
