Hall County Commissioners considering property tax increase

GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Board of Commissioners has tentatively adopted a millage rate for the Countywide General Fund that will require an increase in property taxes as of this afternoon.<br /> <br /> The increase of 4.36 percent is still a consideration, according to County Administrator Randy Knighton.<br /> <br /> "In this case, the indication is that [the] property tax rate would stay the same at 6.25 mills, which it currently is now," said Knighton. "However, because of the combination of growth and reassessment , and how that is determined in the tax digest, because of that, there could be a rollback, essentially to 5.98 mills.<br /> <br /> "So if the county were to consider maintaining it's current tax rate at 6.25 mills, that is considered a tax increase, by law, and has to be advertised as such."<br /> <br /> According to a release from the County, the proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $175,000 is approximately $18.27 and the proposed tax increase for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $150,000 is approximately $15.66.<br /> <br /> There will be three public hearings for the possible increase at the Hall County Government Center on June 12 and 26 at 6 p.m. and on June 23 at 3 p.m. The budget and millage rate will be adopted immediately following the hearing on June 26, according to a release from the county.<br /> <br /> <br />
