GAINESVILLE, GA - The Gainesville City Council approved a $30,328,583 budget for fiscal year 2015 at a meeting Tuesday evening.

The budget should give the city some room for flexibility, according to City Manager Kip Padgett.

"It maintains our public services, and also allows us to make some public safety purchases for our fire and police departments," Padgett said.

Those purchases include new cars for the police and a new truck for the fire department.

This budget presents a 1.9% increase from fiscal year 2014, which was $29.7 million.

COUNCIL APPROVES HOUSING PROJECT

The council also approved a new housing project on Swann Drive and Pearl Nix Parkway.

The new housing is targeted at working families, and construction should begin in the next few months, according to project manager Robbie Robison.

The company, Swann Drive Villas, has built other apartment complexes in Hall County.

"Our work speaks for itself," Robison said. "Our units are full, and we've got a waiting list to get in."

The new housing project will consist of 26 units, and although some houses will face Pearl Nix Parkway, none of the driveways will connect directly to the road.
