LAWRENCEVILLE - A Gwinnett County police officer was arrested over the weekend after his involvement in a hit and run accident.

A press statement from the Gwinnett County Police Department said Ryan Head was a passenger in the at-fault vehicle in the accident on Saturday night. A witness to the accident apparently followed the at-fault vehicle and blocked it in a cul-de-sac. Head allegedly pulled a handgun and tapped it on the window of the witness's vehicle.

Investigators said there was no physical confrontation, no shots were fired and the weapon was not pointed directly at any person. Officers reported that Head was verbally belligerent to arresting officers, but they said he did not physically resist arrest.

Head, a five-year veteran of the department, has resigned from his job in lieu of termination.

The statement did not give a specific location for the accident.
