ATLANTA (AP) A toddler who was severely burned by a flash grenade during a police raid in Cornelia is scheduled for more surgery.

Surgery for 19-month-old Bounkham Phonesavanh was planned for Monday at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. A prayer vigil was also planned at the hospital.

Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell said officers were looking for a suspect who may have been armed and followed proper procedure in the May 28 raid by using the device, which creates a bright flash and loud bang to distract suspects. Terrell added officers would not have used the flash grenade if there had been any indication of children in the home.

A lawyer for the family has said he believes the officers acted improperly and would like to see them prosecuted.
