GAINESVILLE - The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announces a planned speed limit change to the State Route 15/US 441 Loop in Jackson and Banks counties. The speed limit is being raised to 65 miles-per-hour effective Tuesday, June 17. It is now 55.

"After an engineering study on the corridor, data supports the change as most drivers are driving at 65 mph or faster. Keeping traffic flowing at a consistent speed will increase safety along the corridor. We looked specifically at crash data and the geometry of the roadway. Crash data nor the curves in the route prohibited this change to the speed limit," explained Bayne Smith, District Engineer for the GDOT office in Gainesville.

The change affects a 25-mile long section of the road from Newton Bridge Road in Jackson County north through Jackson and Banks counties to south of Old US 441 except within city limits and commercial areas.
