CUMMING - A Dawsonville teen has been charged in a fatal vehicle crash that claimed the life of his friend, according to Forsyth County authorities.

According to a press release from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the crash at the intersection of Kelly Mill Road and Rockingham Run shortly after 1 a.m.

The release said that a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by 17-year-old Adam Robert Joseph Di Millo of Dawsonville, was traveling east on Kelly Mill Road at a high rate of speed. Di Millo lost control of the vehicle as he attempted to navigate a curve, causing the vehicle to leave to roadway.

The truck eventually slammed into a telephone pole in the area of the rear passenger-side door, causing an unrestrained passenger seated on that side to be ejected from the vehicle. That passenger - now identified as 17-year-old Paul Louis Castell Jr. of Dawsonville - was pronounced dead at the scene.

The remaining passengers, two males aged 15 and 17, and 18-year-old Delton Cook of Cumming, were transported, along with the driver, to North Fulton Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities determined Di Millo to be impaired at the time of the crash, and have charged him with DUI,Underage Possession/Consumption of Alcohol, and 1st Degree Homicide by Vehicle. He is being held without bond at the Forsyth County Detention Center.

Di Millo is scheduled for a first court appearance on Monday.
