NE Ga. gearing up for Memorial Day

Several Memorial Day events are on tap again this year in northeast Georgia.

They include the Memorial Day Parade in Gainesville, sponsored by the Paul E. Bolding Post of the American Legion. It will begin at 10:00 at the First Baptist Church on Green Street and disperse downtown. (See first link below for details.)

Beginning at midnight Sunday, May 25, and continuing around the clock until midnight Monday, May 26, the Hall County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard will conduct the annual vigil at Memorial Park Cemetery on Memorial Park Road. It is held each Memorial Day, rain or shine, in the Veterans Garden at the cemetery. Though there will no formal program as in years past, Sheriff Gerald Couch will offer a few remarks around 11:50 Monday morning thanking military veterans.

Monday night at 7:30, the Northwinds Symphonic Band will present its annual Memorial Day Concert at First Baptist Church on Green Street.

There will be a number of activities Monday at Veterans Park in Lula

Gwinnett County will host the 11th annual Memorial Day ceremony on Monday at 1 p.m. at the Gwinnett Fallen Heroes Memorial in Lawrenceville.

Lake Lanier Islands kicked off a four-day holiday weekend celebration Friday. (Click on second link below for details.)

American Legion Post #16 will hold a service at the Armed Forces Memorial in front of the White County Courthouse in Cleveland Monday at 9:00. Following the service biscuits and coffee will be served to veterans at the courthouse.
