GAINESVILLE - Now that students are back in their classrooms at Chestatee Academy following a Wednesday morning evacuation, school officials and law enforcement want to find the person who scrawled a hoax bomb threat on a bathroom wall.

Hall County School District spokesman Gordon Higgins said the message was discovered around 9:30 a.m. on the wall of a boys bathroom on the 8th grade hall near the school gym. He said students were quickly evacuated to the stadium at nearby Chestatee High School and law enforcement was summoned to the scene.

"They got here within 30 minutes with the two bomb [sniffing] dogs and started their sweep, and within an hour, they deemed the building to be safe," said Higgins.

Students and staff were back in their classrooms just after 11 a.m., according to Higgins.

As the incident unfolded, Hall County School Superintendent Will Schofield said parents were notified of the situation. Many came to the school and checked their children out for the day once law enforcement declared the campus safe.

"Parents are concerned about their child's safety and we certainly understand and respect that, but there is no threat," said Higgins.

This week is the last week of school for the Hall County system, and Higgins said the teachers at Chestatee Academy were using the day as a review day for final exams, which begin Thursday.

Superintendent Schofield said the goal now is to find those who are responsible for writing the threat.

"We've offered an immediate $1,000 reward for information that leads to the individual who caused this disruption," said Schofield.
