Only 5 percent of White County voters turn out in advance

CLEVELAND - The General Primary Election is Tuesday, and if the early voting numbers are any indication it will be a slow day for White County poll workers.

"We had 452 voters turnout for early voting and 167 mailed ballots returned, which is only about a 5-percent turnout," said White County Chief Voter Registrar Lisa Manning. "I am hoping more people realize there is an election on Tuesday and go to the polls because 5 percent is not a good turnout at all!"

One possible reason for the low turnout is there are no contested local races on the ballot and many people don't think it is important to vote unless there is a local issue to vote on.

All voting precinct locations will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday.

Those who have voted in the past at the White County Recreation Gym are reminded that voting location has changed to Mount Yonah Baptist Church, also on Asbestos Road.
