CLEVELAND - The White County Water Authority has a new director and he's a familiar face at the authority office.

White County Commissioner Edwin Nix has been serving as chairman of the water authority board for several years, and following the sudden death - back in January - of Director Gary Howe, the board appointed Nix to serve as interim until a new director was found.

Nix said that during the process they talked with some great candidates, but the board decided to offer the job to Nix, who said he had to think about it a lot.

"It's been one of the biggest decisions ever made in my life and I've owned my own company this is 40 years that I have been in business in White County on my own and there's been days that my company took second seat to the water authority, because there was things going on there that had to be taken care of," Nix said.

Nix said he will resign his position as chairman of the water authority board and begin his new duties as director June 1. The water authority is an independent authority and gets no funding from county tax dollars, and Nix said they have found no conflict of interest with his decision.

According to Nix, he has his work cut out for him."

"There is 88,000 feet of dead-end pipeline in the county and projects they are currently working on would tie those together to provide better water and water pressure for customers," Nix said. "Our ambition is to get as many water lines in this county - not just to help the water system but to help the residents of White County - for not only drinking water but fire protection."
Edwin Nix has been named director of the White County Water Authority.
