"This is really an enhancement to the system that's already in place," said Hall County 911 Director Gail Lane.
The person of interest cases, Lane explained, include missing children, escaped inmates, or suspects in a crime-in-progress. However, the alerts would only be used in serious situations.
"We receive a lot of calls whenever citizens see heavy law enforcement activity in their area, and we just hope that this will be a tool that we can use to keep the citizens better informed about what is going on in their area," said Lane.
She said the alerts would include the description of the person and their last known location, along with any other pertinent details. It will also tell citizens to call 911 if they encounter the person.
The Citizen Alert System has been used in Hall County since 2013 for severe weather, crimes in progress and other issues. Residents can sign up online at the Hall County website, which is linked below.
