High School in which a student brought a gun to school and
attempted to take her own life, a special program to address
the issue has been planned.
White County Family Connection and Restoration Point Church
have arranged to have professionals on hand to talk about
school-age children and what they are experiencing.
The meeting is set for 7 p.m. Monday at Restoration Point
Church east of Cleveland.
Annette Boswell, Family Connections/student services
attendance liaison at White County Schools, is one of the
organizers for the event.
"We've been saying we need to do something for a long time and
nobody really got it until we all were faced with it and there
were lockdowns," Boswell said. "We have had a large number of
students this year that have talked about and attempted
suicide and I think it's time we as a community talk about it
and see what we can do."
According to Boswell, the program is intended primarily for
parents and community leaders and they will have advice to
share.
"What not to do, more or less, or what you can do to keep your
children safe as far as gun safety and locking your pills up
and then who to contact," Boswell said.
Those attending will have an opportunity to learn more about
the resources in and out of school to help.
