Gilmer County Sheriff Stacy Nicholson confirmed to Fox 5 that authorities were investigating the allegation, in which an 18-year-old victim ended up in the hospital following an after-prom party in a cabin.
"We were notified by the hospital in Calhoun that there was a female there that was reporting that she had been raped," Nicholson told Fox 5.
He also confirmed that lots of alcohol had been consumed at the party, and that one of the party-goer's parents owned the cabin in Coosawattee River Resort, where the alleged assault took place.
The prom was held on Saturday night, the Calhoun City Schools superintendent confirmed for Fox 5.
"No matter how the chips fall, lives are ruined," Nicholson said to Fox 5. "We take it very seriously."
No arrests have been made yet.
