Jackson EMC Foundation awards grants to local agencies

UNDATED - The Jackson EMC Foundation has awarded $84,500 in grants to local agencies, including several in our area and one in Gainesville.

The Gainesville First United Methodist Church received $2,500 to help fund a summer soccer camp for at risk elementary school children in the Baker and Glover neighborhood .

Exodus Outreach, a Buford non-profit organization serving all ages who need support, was awarded $15,000. the money will go towards a summer education program for Kindergarten through eighth grade students that will help them prepare for school in the fall.

The Gwinnett Student Leadership Team was also awarded $15,000 for it's student leadership program. The two year program serves high school juniors and seniors in 22 public schools, providing practical leadership skills and training.

The Spectrum Autism Support Group was awarded $10,000. The group is a parent-run non-profit in Suwanee that provides support, education and resources for the entire spectrum of autism disorders.

$6,000 was awarded to the Gwinnett Public Library for new books for their summer reading book giveaway.

And, the Side By Side Brain Injury club, a non-profit out of Gwinnett, was given $5,000 to provide 12 month rehabilitation program fees for brain injured adults in counties served by Jackson EMC.

Grants were also awarded to Extra Special People in Watkinsville, Camp Twin Lakes, Camp Kudzu and Cross Pointe Church Food Pantry in Duluth.

The grant recipients were chosen by the Jackson EMC Board of Directors in their April board meeting.
