Abarca may be an underclassman, but he played well above his years in high-pressure postseason action last week.
In three games, Abarca netted five goals to lead Johnson to three consecutive wins to keep alive its playoff hopes in the Georgia Class AAAA tournament. He scored twice in the first game to lead Johnson to a 3-0 win over Marist and immediately followed up that performance with a goal in a 2-1 win over Carrollton.
Finally, he hit for a brace in the state quarterfinal game against Cairo to lead Johnson into the final four.
The Knights also defeated Southeast Whitfield in the semifinals and will take on defending state champ Dalton in the title game at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Kennesaw State University.
