Woman seriously injured in Habersham crash

CLARKESVILLE - A single-vehicle wreck north of Clarkesville Tuesday night left the driver seriously injured.

According to Trooper 1st Class Casey Coffee of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa, 28-year-old Christa Joy Joyce of Maysville suffered an incapacitating head injury when she lost control of her 2007 Honda Accord on Stonepile Road about 9:29 p.m.

Coffee said Joyce was traveling south on Stonepile Road. While negotiating a curve, the car traveled off the east shoulder, re-entered the road, the driver overcorrected, then the car rotate counterclockwise, traveling off the east shoulder again.

The car struck an embankment with its front, then overturned, Coffee said. Joyce, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle.

She was taken by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Coffee said no charges have been made at this time.
