LAWRENCEVILLE - Highway 20 was closed in front of Coolray Field in Lawrenceville for a couple of hours Wednesday morning after a utility crew hit a natural gas line right in front of the stadium.

Gwinnett County Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge reported crews were called to the scene at 1 Braves Avenue at 9:26 a.m. and found an active gas leak in front of the stadium.

While Lawrenceville gas worked to contain the leak, firefighters stayed on the scene monitoring gas readings in the vicinity of the leak. They reported no elevated readings at any time during the repair process. No evacuations were necessary and there were no injuries, according to Rutledge.

The leak was stopped at 11:02 a.m. and the highway was reopened at 11:38 a.m.
