COMMERCE - A wreck that shut down at least one southbound lane of Interstate 85 southbound in Banks County much of Tuesday resulted in serious injuries.

The wreck involved a tractor-trailer truck and a Honda, said Trooper 1st Class J.S. Munger of Georgia State Patrol Post 6 in Gainesville.

Munger said full details of the crash are not available yet, but noted both vehicles were traveling south on I-85 at mile marker 154 in Banks County.

"Evidence shows that [the truck] struck [the car] in the driver's side rear quarter panel with its passenger's side front quarter panel."

After impact, the truck exited the west shoulder of the interstate and overturned, Munger said. The car came to rest in the roadway.

One person was airlifted from the scene for medical care.

Munger said more details will be forthcoming.
