The NCAA has released the 56-team field that will compete for a national championship in Division III with six of those squads coming to Loudermilk Field for their chance at a spot in the College World Series. Piedmont's field includes a trio of nationally ranked teams, two conference champions, and five of the six highest rated teams in the South Region as the masses will flock to the spot where MLB Hall of Famer Johnny Mize once played amongst a bevy of baseball history.

The selections were announced a little after 1:00 am Eastern time on Monday at NCAA.com with Piedmont being one of four sites (Linfield, Augustana, Wisc-Whitewater) to have a six-team regional awarded while the remaining four sites (Misericordia, Ithaca, Marietta, ECAC at Whitehouse Field) saw an eight-team field announced their way. The winner of the regional hosted by Piedmont will face the winner of the Misericordia Regional in the College World Series set for May 23-27 at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin.

The six teams selected to the regional hosted by Piedmont include No. 1 seed Shenandoah University, No. 2 seed Emory University, No. 3 seed Birmingham Southern College, No. 4 seed Bridgewater College, No. 5 seed Rhodes College, and No. 6 seed Covenant College. The six teams sport a combined 186-69 overall record and will battle in a four-day tournament starting Wednesday, May 14th with the No. 1 seed Shenandoah (ODAC) taking on the No. 6 seed, USA South champ Covenant College.

That opening match-up will take place at noon on Wednesday with a 3:30 pm game to follow featuring the No. 2 seed Emory University, a University Athletic Association member, who plays the No. 5 seed, Rhodes College, one of two SAA members at the regional in Demorest. Day 1 will then wrap up with the No. 3 seed Birmingham Southern College out of the Southern Athletic Association taking on the No. 4 seed Bridgewater College, champion and automatic qualifier out of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
