According to Captain Tony Wooten with the Dawson County Sheriff's Office, they've gotten several reports over the last week of a man calling people claiming he's a Sheriff's Deputy.
He tells them they've missed jury duty, and that they need to pay a fine over the phone. If they don't, they'll face an arrest warrant.
"Obviously that's a scam. That's not how the system works," Wooten said. "That's obviously a scare tactic."
Wooten said they've tried getting the message out on social media, and they made a point of notifying senior citizens.
The scammer has been using the name "Lieutenant Martin." Incidentally, there is a Deputy Martin on the force, but that deputy is a female.
"I think that name is just one that was picked out of the blue," Wooten said.
